The problems faced by parents with a dyslexic child are often heightened by the totally incorrect view that dyslexic learning difficulties stem from a mental or physical handicap, low intelligence, brain defect, poor hearing and vision, or primary emotional problems. These misconceptions can still persist despite extensive national publicity to enlighten people as to the real difficulties that dyslexic children have. Their difficulties are independent of the child's intelligence or potential and contrast with the dyslexic child's ease of expression in other areas of intellectual skills, such as Science, Art and Computing.
Dyslexia will not go away. As your child gets older, so the gap between age and achievement will widen unless the right help is given.
